The Kenya Police Service is often stereotyped as a profession for those with modest academic qualifications, largely due to the minimum entry grade of D+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
However, this perception is misleading, as several officers have excelled academically before joining the force. One shining example is Inspector Kennedy Njuguna Muchoki, currently serving as the Garissa Township Base Commander.
Born and raised in Murang’a, Njuguna distinguished himself early in his education, scoring an impressive A- in his KCSE examinations. His strong academic background shaped his decision to pursue a career in public service.
He later enrolled at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), where he earned a degree in Criminology. This academic foundation prepared him for a disciplined and impactful journey in law enforcement.
Njuguna joined the Kenya Police Service in 2017 and graduated from the Kenya Police Training College in Kiganjo the following year. His first posting was in Kakamega County, where he served in the Anti-Crime Branch.
He was later transferred to Bungoma County before rising to the rank of Inspector. In Malindi, Njuguna served as the Officer Commanding Anti-Crime Branch, playing a pivotal role in the high-profile Operation Okoa Maisha in Shakahola.
His dedication and skill earned him a promotion to Deputy Base Commander in Malindi in 2023, where he was recognised for innovative traffic management strategies.
Today, as Base Commander in Garissa Township, Njuguna continues to champion road safety initiatives with exceptional results.
In recognition of his work, he received the Traffic Base Commander of the Year Award on July 4, 2025, during the Road Safety Excellence Awards hosted by AA Kenya.
