James Kimoi Moi, son of former Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, has chosen a different path from his family’s political legacy by building a career in modern farming.
Although he studied Civil Engineering, Kimoi opted to follow his passion for agriculture. He is among the few elite individuals who attended top international schools. He went to Harrow School in London before joining the University of Exeter, where he graduated with first-class honors in Civil Engineering.
After completing his studies, Kimoi returned to Kenya and became the director of Kongoy Farm, a family-owned large-scale farming company based in Nakuru. The company imports between 200 and 300 tonnes of potato seeds annually from the Netherlands, multiplies them locally, and sells them to farmers.
Kimoi was inspired to start potato seed production in Kenya after noticing a shortage of quality seeds. Farmers often reused potatoes as seed, leading to low yields. To improve local farming, he has visited several countries, including Argentina, to learn better techniques.
Apart from farming, Kimoi plays polo with his father and brother. He married Ivy Chebet Meli in March 2025 in a colorful ceremony attended by top leaders.
