A Kenyan domestic worker, identified as Abigael, is fighting for her life in Saudi Arabia after allegedly being thrown from the fourth floor of a building by her employer.
Abigael had only been in the Gulf country for a month, having traveled in search of better job opportunities. According to reports, a dispute with her employer escalated into violence, leaving her with devastating injuries.
She was rushed to King Salman Hospital where doctors confirmed that she suffered a broken spinal cord and multiple fractures in her right leg. Her condition remains critical, and she requires urgent specialized treatment.
Speaking from her hospital bed in an interview with Lucky Media, the young woman broke down as she recounted her ordeal. She said she left Kenya with high hopes of supporting her family, only for her dream to turn into a nightmare.
“I am in so much pain. I cannot walk or even sit up on my own. I am pleading with well-wishers and the government to help me get proper medical attention,” Abigael said tearfully.
The story has triggered outrage among Kenyans both at home and abroad. Labor rights and human rights activists have called on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to urgently intervene, demanding justice for Abigael and accountability from her employer.
They are also pushing for her to be airlifted back to Kenya for proper treatment, warning that her condition could worsen without immediate care.
This case adds to the growing concerns over the safety of Kenyan domestic workers in the Middle East. In recent years, several reports of abuse, exploitation, and violence against migrant workers have surfaced, sparking calls for tighter regulation of recruitment agencies and stronger protection measures for those seeking work abroad.
