Kenyan Celebrities spotted at the ‘Occupy Parliament’ protests

This year’s finance bill has ignited significant backlash since its proposal. Many Kenyans, already struggling with high taxes, have seized every available platform to express their grievances to the government about the tax burden they face even before the bill is enacted.

The bill has become one of the most debated topics in the country, leading to widespread protests with many citizens taking to the streets in opposition. Several notable figures have joined these demonstrations, including:

Boniface Mwangi

The political activist has been highly visible across various social media platforms. He has been actively advocating for the protests and was seen at multiple locations in the CBD.

“It’s too early to be arrested. Let’s regroup and observe police movements. If you get arrested, resist. Sit down, scream, drag yourself. Don’t make it easy for them. Try to escape. If they manage to put you in their car, text your name to 0716200100,” he advised.

Carey Priscilla

The well-known digital creator, who has been trending recently after announcing her third pregnancy, was seen on the streets carrying placards during the protests.

“Tax policies should not excessively burden ordinary citizens, especially those in vulnerable communities already grappling with inflation and low wages!” she declared in her caption.

In a recently shared video on social media, teargas overwhelmed radio host Mwalimu Racheal, leaving tears streaming down her face as she ran to safety.

Amina Abdi Rabar

Amina Abdi Rabar, an award-winning TV and radio presenter, was seen on the streets of the CBD holding a bottle of water and a handkerchief in preparation for teargas during the protests.

Jackie Matubia

Jackie Matubia, the award-winning actress known for her role in the Tahidi High TV drama, has been actively involved in various humanitarian projects and was also spotted protesting against the finance bill in the CBD.

“Today, I endured teargas… I did it for everyone who couldn’t. May the voices of the youth in this country be heard,” she declared.

Arrow Bwoy and Nadia Mukami

The musical duo, who have been releasing hit songs back-to-back, were spotted on the streets alongside other protesters. The two artists showed solidarity in opposing the heavy taxation imposed by the current administration.
