Kasarani MP Ronald Karauri Enters Race for Nairobi Governor in 2027

Ronald Karauri, the Member of Parliament for Kasarani, has declared his intention to vie for the Nairobi Governor seat in the 2027 General Election, citing persistent leadership challenges in the capital.

Speaking to the media, Karauri said he believes he can transform the city’s performance and address long-standing service delivery concerns. He argued that leadership is the core problem affecting Nairobi and expressed confidence that, with the backing of Kasarani residents, he can deliver meaningful change if elected.

According to Karauri, managing Nairobi should not be overly complicated, given the county’s significant budget allocation. Drawing from his background as a businessman, he said he has the experience needed to ensure proper prioritisation of resources and efficient administration.

Karauri now joins a growing list of aspirants eyeing the governorship. Former Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria announced his bid in October 2025, promising to reform city management and address alleged mismanagement.

Paul Ongili, widely known as Babu Owino and currently the Embakasi East MP, has also confirmed his interest in the seat. Although he acknowledged uncertainty over securing the ODM ticket, he stated he would pursue his ambitions while maintaining respect for party leadership.

Journalist and political analyst Tony Gachoka has likewise entered the race after joining KANU and formally announcing his candidacy in June 2025.

With several high-profile figures declaring their interest, the Nairobi gubernatorial contest is shaping up to be highly competitive. As the 2027 General Election draws closer, voters are expected to scrutinise candidates’ leadership credentials, management capabilities, and track records in addressing the city’s ongoing challenges.
