‎Family Cries for Justice After Young Mother Dies from Anaesthesia Overdose During a birth C-section

‎A family in Kangemi, Nairobi, is demanding swift justice after an autopsy revealed that 26-year-old Faith Binzali died from an anaesthesia overdose while undergoing a cesarean section at St Joseph the Worker Health Centre.

‎Faith and her husband, Alex Ndungu, were eagerly awaiting the arrival of their first child — a moment that was supposed to be filled with joy and new beginnings. Instead, it ended in heartbreak when Faith died on the operating table just hours after being admitted to the facility.

‎According to family members, Faith had gone through a normal pregnancy and was in good health when she arrived at the hospital on the morning of the scheduled delivery. However, after doctors recommended a cesarean section, she was rushed into the operating theatre — never to return.

‎”She was full of life. We were so ready to welcome our baby,” said Alex, struggling to hold back tears. “Now, I’m left with silence, pain, and questions.”

‎The family authorised a postmortem at Chiromo Mortuary to understand what had gone wrong. The results were devastating: Faith died due to an overdose of anaesthesia, which led to respiratory failure — essentially, she suffocated on the operating table.

‎The shocking findings have sparked outrage, with the family now calling on health authorities to take immediate action against the hospital. “This was pure negligence,” said a family spokesperson. “Someone must be held accountable.”

‎Local leaders and women’s rights advocates have also joined the call for justice, urging the Ministry of Health to investigate the facility’s practices and ensure such tragedies are prevented in the future.
