Suna East MP Junet Mohamed has taken a swipe at Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, saying the second-in-command is now acting like a member of the opposition after falling out with President William Ruto.
Speaking during a public rally, Junet joked that Gachagua’s political troubles were of his own making, adding that the Kenya Kwanza alliance was now divided and in disarray.
“Sahii Rigathi Gachagua analia sababu ako opposition. Sahii tunamlima asubuhi na mapema, na sisi kama ODM hakuna siku tutakua opposition tena, iyo tittle tumemwachia,” Junet said, drawing laughter and applause from the crowd.
The outspoken ODM legislator said that the Azimio coalition had already endured the challenges of being in opposition for many years, and it was now time for others to “taste the experience.”
Junet’s comments come amid growing tension between President Ruto and his deputy, with Gachagua recently accusing some top government officials of sidelining him in key decisions. Analysts say the political rift within the Kenya Kwanza administration could reshape Kenya’s power dynamics ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Supporters of the opposition have interpreted Junet’s remarks as a sign of confidence that ODM remains politically strong and influential despite being outside government. However, Kenya Kwanza loyalists have dismissed the comments as “empty talk” meant to gain political mileage.
As the political heat continues to rise, Junet’s remarks have further fueled debate about loyalty, betrayal, and shifting alliances within Kenya’s fast-changing political landscape.
