Kisumu Tragedy: 6 Lives Lost After Lorry Loses Control on Busy Highway

At least six people have lost their lives and four others were seriously injured following a grisly accident along the Kericho–Kisumu Highway.

The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday, September 16, in the Kipsiget area when a lorry ferrying scrap metals reportedly lost control and veered off the road. The vehicle rammed into pedestrians who were waiting for transport at a bus stage, leaving the busy highway littered with chaos and screams of horror.

Soin Police Commander Lawrence Kisini confirmed the fatalities, revealing that four people died on the spot while two others succumbed to their injuries as they were being rushed to Kericho County Hospital.

“The lorry was heading to Kisumu from Kericho when the driver lost control. One woman and three men died on the spot, while two others passed away while being rushed to hospital,” Kisini said.

Four more victims sustained serious injuries and were rushed to hospital for emergency treatment. Authorities have since launched investigations to establish the exact cause of the accident, though preliminary reports suggest brake failure or reckless driving could have been contributing factors.

The tragedy adds to a growing list of deadly road crashes in Kenya, with police reporting that over 12 lives were lost in separate incidents across the country on the same day.

The Kisumu accident has left families mourning and reignited calls for stricter road safety enforcement to prevent such devastating loss of life.TO READ MORE,TAP HERE
