Daniel Githinji Mwangi—popularly known as Mbusii—was born and raised in the tough environment of Korogocho slums. Life was never easy, and his first hustle was selling soup on the streets to make ends meet.
A Passion Ignited at the Kenya National Theatre
Despite the hardships, Mbusii had a passion for the arts. He ventured into acting at the Kenya National Theatre, taking part in set-book performances and stage plays. For several years, he toured schools and built his talent. However, financial struggles forced him to abandon acting and return to the slums.
A Desperate Hustle for Survival
Back home, Mbusii’s circumstances pushed him into selling bhang to survive. He needed to cover rent, pay school fees, and provide for daily needs. Though risky, it was the only way he could support himself and his young family at the time.
His Breakthrough at Ghetto Radio
A chance encounter changed everything. Mbusii was spotted near the theatre and invited to Ghetto Radio, where he began as a messenger and part-time voice-over artist. His starting salary was only KSh 3,000, but he treated it as a golden opportunity to grow.
Rising Through the Ranks
At Ghetto Radio, Mbusii learned quickly and volunteered for more roles. Soon, he was hosting reggae shows, particularly Goteana, which attracted a loyal fan base. His unique style and ability to connect with listeners made him stand out.
A New Chapter with Radio Jambo
His career took a major leap when he joined Radio Jambo, where his income and influence grew significantly. Today, he earns a comfortable salary, placing him among Kenya’s best-paid radio presenters.
Personal Life and Determination
Behind his success stands his wife, fondly known as “Mama Stacy.” Their love story began during his most difficult days, when she even supported him with transport money. Together, they have built a family and weathered life’s storms.
