8 police interdicted after Kware killings suspect, 12 Eritreans escaped Gigiri Police Station

On Tuesday, August 20, Acting Inspector General Gilbert Masengeli took decisive action by interdicting eight officers from the National Police Service following the escape of 13 suspects, including Collins Jumaisi, the prime suspect in the Kware killings, from Gigiri Police Station.

During a press briefing, Masengeli revealed that the Gigiri Sub-County Commander, the Officer Commanding the Station, and report officers have been detained to assist with the ongoing investigation.

Joined by Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohamed Amin and Kenya Police Service Deputy Inspector General Eliud Langat, Masengeli characterized the incident as an “inside job.”

The nation was shocked by the news that Jumaisi, who had allegedly confessed to the brutal murders of at least six women, whose mutilated bodies were found at the Kware dumpsite in Embakasi South, was among those who escaped.

The other 12 escapees are reportedly Eritrean nationals who were being held at the station for illegal entry into the country.
