Dr. John Khaminwa is one of Kenya’s longest-serving lawyers and a respected human rights activist. He holds an international law degree from the New York University School of Law and has practiced law for over six decades.

Throughout his career, Dr. Khaminwa has represented many high-profile individuals in Kenya. Even in his advanced age, he remains active in the legal field, showing a deep commitment to justice.

Notably, Dr. Khaminwa has represented over 1,000 clients on a pro bono basis, earning recognition and awards for his dedication to helping those who cannot afford legal services.

He is known for his outspoken nature and has never shied away from criticizing political leadership in Kenya. He once described politics in the country as nothing more than a form of job seeking. Additionally, he has been a strong advocate against tribalism and has consistently pushed for the inclusion and representation of minority communities.

In the early 1980s and 1990s, Dr. Khaminwa was detained due to his involvement in the fight for multi-party democracy. Despite these challenges, he continued to play a key role in Kenya’s legal and political transformation.

On a personal note, he lost his wife, whom he described as a brilliant judge. They had been married for 48 years before her passing. In 2017, he also mourned the loss of his firstborn son, Albert Khaminwa.
