Fans of classic Kenyan TV dramas will fondly remember Tahidi High, the popular series that aired on Citizen TV for years. Among the standout stars was Teacher Kilunda, a character played by Ted Kitana, who was a key figure on the show for over a decade.
However, like many productions, Tahidi High came to a halt in 2020 following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. After the show’s end, Kitana chose to leave the city and return to his rural home in Kangundo, Machakos County.
These days, Kitana has taken on a new role—businessman and farmer. He now runs a salon, a barbershop, and an M-Pesa outlet. In addition to this, he also practices farming. His ventures have provided employment to several locals, contributing to his community’s economy.
Although he owns a home in Nairobi, where his wife and children live, Kitana has grown to appreciate the peaceful lifestyle in the countryside. He travels to the city occasionally but prefers the slower pace of rural life.
In a past conversation, Kitana opened up about his life after acting. He explained that while he didn’t plan to move back to the village initially, he has since found fulfillment in his new ventures. He also shared that farming has always been close to his heart, a skill he learned in his younger days.
Kitana’s story is just one among several Tahidi High alumni who have taken different paths after the show. Another notable case is that of Kamau Kinuthia, known as Omosh, who went viral after revealing financial difficulties he was facing. His story touched many Kenyans, and he received widespread support, including help in building a house and other donations.
From the screen to the soil, these former actors continue to inspire with how they’ve adapted and found new purpose after the cameras stopped rolling.
