Before Miss Trudy ventured into content creation, she held various low-paying jobs to make ends meet. In a conversation with Dr. King’ori on the Wicked Edition, she shared that finding employment after graduating from university was challenging. The only job she could secure at the time was as a brand promoter in a supermarket, though her long-term goal was to advance to a merchandiser role.
“I had planned my life,” she explained. “I knew I was going to do promotions for a while and then get promoted to be a merchandiser.”
Despite her dedication, a promotion remained out of reach. During her time as a promoter, an unexpected encounter with her supervisor would ultimately cost her the opportunity she had been striving for. Unknowingly, she sold products to the company’s owner, who was so impressed by her sales skills that he initially offered her a promotion.
However, when she visited the office that Saturday, expecting to be promoted, she was instead fired in front of her colleagues. Reflecting on the experience, Miss Trudy remarked, “I wasn’t getting promoted for so long… I thought I would be promoted, but instead, I was fired.”
Following this setback, Miss Trudy turned to content creation, launching a YouTube channel where she began sharing vlogs. Initially, she wasn’t sure about the direction she should take or what kind of content to create. “I hadn’t figured myself out yet, but as time went by, I just started showing my life and doing restaurant reviews. I never even thought of it, I just knew I loved doing it,” she said.
Despite spending a year creating content, she didn’t earn any income initially. It was only after she learned about YouTube monetization that she applied and received her first payment of Ksh 10,000. Although the amount was small, it fueled her determination to continue. “I didn’t see a big future, but I loved it, and something in me told me to keep going. It’s all about consistency, determination, and giving yourself time,” she reflected.
Her persistence paid off, as Miss Trudy eventually earned up to Ksh 1 million per month from her YouTube channel. Her success also led to a relationship with Wode Maya, a Ghanaian YouTuber and philanthropist, who reached out to her on Instagram to collaborate. Although she initially missed his message, the two continued to communicate, and he later invited her on a trip to Ethiopia.
“Since I started working, I had saved Ksh 40,000, and I used part of it to travel. That’s the best decision I’ve ever made because he just transformed my life,” she said.
Miss Trudy’s journey from struggling to find a stable job to becoming a successful content creator and forming a meaningful relationship is a testament to her resilience and passion for her work.
