Residents of Kangundo, Machakos County, were left in shock after a man who allegedly stole and sold his neighbour’s goat was forced to eat grass as punishment.
According to witnesses, the man was nabbed by irate locals after the owner of the goat raised an alarm when his animal went missing. After a brief search, the suspect was cornered at a local market where he had already sold the goat to a butcher.
The angry residents decided to teach him a lesson he would never forget. They tied him up, marched him to the scene of the theft, and ordered him to eat grass — just like the goat he had stolen.
Videos of the dramatic incident have since gone viral on social media, showing the man chewing on grass as onlookers jeered. Some residents could be heard saying the punishment was meant to serve as a warning to others fond of stealing livestock in the area.
Local authorities have condemned the mob justice, urging residents to report theft cases to the police instead of taking the law into their own hands. The suspect was later handed over to Kangundo Police Station for further investigation.
