Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has said he will not be drawn into political attacks, maintaining that his focus remains on development and serving Kenyans.

Kindiki spoke on Thursday, September 17, 2026, while inspecting development projects in Igembe South Constituency, Meru County. He said the government was focused on delivering projects in areas such as roads, healthcare, electricity, water and markets.

The Deputy President criticised political opponents who, according to him, have concentrated on insults and political slogans instead of presenting their plans to Kenyans.

Kindiki challenged leaders seeking political support to explain what they would do if elected and to highlight their records of service when they previously held government positions.

He also referred to political criticism directed at President William Ruto, saying Kenyans were more interested in development projects than political name-calling.

The Deputy President said political competition should focus on leaders’ programmes and records rather than personal attacks as the country moves towards the 2027 General Election.

Kindiki also struck a conciliatory tone towards his political opponents from Meru. He said some of the leaders criticising him were people he had grown up with and regarded as brothers despite their political differences.

He said he had chosen not to respond to criticism with insults and would continue respecting his opponents.

Kindiki maintained that he would remain focused on his government responsibilities and development work rather than being distracted by political exchanges.

His remarks come as political activity continues to increase across the country ahead of the 2027 General Election, with leaders from different political groups beginning to position themselves for the contest.
