Kenya’s political scene has once again been thrown into debate after Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei openly called on Dr. Oburu Odinga to remove Edwin Sifuna as the Secretary-General of the ODM Party.
Cherargei, known for his bold and often controversial political statements, said he has lost confidence in Sifuna’s leadership within ODM. According to him, Sifuna’s recent conduct and political pronouncements have been divisive, painting a bad image of the party that has long been associated with democracy and unity under Raila Odinga.
“I want to instruct my good friend Dr. Oburu Odinga to remove Edwin Sifuna as the SG of the ODM party,” said Cherargei.
The senator’s remarks have quickly spread across social media, sparking heated reactions among ODM supporters and political observers. While some Kenyans agree with Cherargei’s sentiments, claiming that Sifuna has become too outspoken and disrespectful, others view the statement as an unnecessary intrusion into the affairs of a rival party.
Edwin Sifuna, who also serves as the Nairobi Senator, has been one of ODM’s most vocal defenders, frequently taking on government critics and standing firmly by party leader Raila Odinga. However, his blunt political style often attracts criticism from leaders in opposing camps, including Cherargei.
Political analysts believe Cherargei’s latest comments reflect growing political tension as Kenya gears up for the 2027 General Election. They argue that such remarks are part of broader political maneuvers by leaders seeking to shape public opinion ahead of key alliances and party realignments.
As debate continues online, ODM officials are yet to respond to Cherargei’s statement. Whether Dr. Oburu Odinga will act on the senator’s “instruction” remains to be seen — but one thing is certain: Kenyan politics never runs short of drama.
