Kikuyu artist Samuel Muchoki Ndirangu, alias Samidoh has explained why he dropped out of school in class Seven to become a herder.
As indicated by the Administration Police (AP) officer who joined the service in 2013 and graduated in 2014, life was difficult while growing up. He says that after the demise of his dad, life took an alternate, unexpected turn.
“So tulihamishwa cha nguvu sababu baba yetu hayuko tena. So ile pesa kidogo ya pension mathee alikua amepewa, akanunua nayo shamba,” adding that “Maisha haikua rahisi sana…ilifika point nikaacha shule at class 7 nikaandikwa kazi ya kuchunga Ng’ombe,”
Samidoh added that he used to earn Sh300 each month for the job.
“Mia tatu ilikua pesa mingi… ” he said.
Samidoh gain fame after an energizing performance at Koroga Festival and the rest is history.
Describing his profession line of duty, the 29-year-old revealed that his first assignment was at Eastleigh, Nairobi after which he was posted to Mpeketoni in Lamu, County. After serving in the Coast region, he was moved to Dadaab in Garissa County.
“Vile recruitment ya polisi ilikuja, nilijitolea na kukumbia na nikakuja number two. Na hivyo ndio nilipata kazi ya kuwa AP. Nikapostiwa Dadaab but haja yangu ilikuwa kupata job,” he said.
Talking about sharing a stage with prestigious Nigerian artist Femi Kuti, he named the experience as extraordinary since afterwards, he became famous.
“Sasa huyu ni msanii international na nililetwa before aingie stage. Ni favor na Grace ya God tu. I was very nervous but when I went on stage, alafu watu wakaanza kudance na mimi, baas, nikaflow na wao,” he added.
Regardless of his achievement in music,he is loyal to the force and doesn’t plan on trading his gun anytime soon.
