Police in Eldoret have arrested a General Service Unit (GSU) officer allegedly attached to the security team of a Rift Valley governor in connection with the killing of a 45-year-old nurse.

The officer was arrested after a six-hour search following the death of Dorris Murei, popularly known as Dori, who was killed at a bar near Eldoret State Lodge on Sunday evening.

According to preliminary police investigations, the suspect allegedly entered the establishment before approaching Murei and shooting her.

Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Wilberforce Sicharani confirmed the arrest and said investigations were underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The killing has sparked concern among residents and members of Murei’s family, who are calling for a quick and transparent investigation.

Murei’s husband said he had spoken to her hours before the incident and described her as being in good spirits. The two had reportedly been making arrangements for their child, who was preparing to join Maseno University.

The family later received information that Murei had been killed and went to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where her identity was confirmed.

Relatives have also raised concerns about reports suggesting that the killing may have been linked to a personal relationship. They have called for investigators to establish the facts and ensure that the case is handled independently.

The arrest of an officer allegedly linked to a governor’s security detail has attracted additional attention, with the family urging authorities to ensure that the suspect’s position does not interfere with the investigation.

Police are continuing with investigations as they seek to establish the circumstances surrounding Murei’s death and determine whether other individuals were involved.
