RIP: The Emotional Final Words Raila Odinga Shared With His Wife Ida Before His Death in India

Kenya is mourning the passing of former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga, who died in India after suffering a cardiac arrest on the morning of Wednesday, October 15.
According to medical reports, Raila collapsed during a morning walk and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead at around 9:52 a.m. Indian time. Officials from Kerala’s Ernakulam district confirmed that the cardiac arrest was sudden and that all attempts to save his life were unsuccessful.

The ODM leader had travelled to Koothattukulam, India, for specialized Ayurvedic treatment, accompanied by close family members, including his daughter.
Raila’s death has brought to a close a remarkable chapter in Kenya’s political history. For over four decades, he was at the forefront of the struggle for democracy, justice, and good governance — a journey that earned him admiration from both supporters and critics alike.

As tributes pour in from across the world, Kenyans are reflecting on his legacy and his unwavering dedication to the nation. Among the memories resurfacing is his heartfelt message to his wife, Ida Odinga, written during her recent birthday.
In the emotional note shared online, Raila thanked Ida for her love, patience, and unwavering support throughout their five-decade marriage. He described her as “the love of my life and the pillar of our family,” words that now carry an even deeper meaning following his untimely death.

Leaders from around the globe, along with millions of Kenyans, have expressed profound sorrow over his passing. Many have described Raila as a visionary leader, a patriot, and a man who dedicated his life to the service of his country.
Preparations are currently underway to repatriate his body to Kenya, where he is expected to be accorded a state funeral befitting his national stature.
