Kenyans are mourning the death of Sandra Kiprono, a young woman from Kapsowar, Elgeyo Marakwet County, who passed away exactly two years after writing and sharing her own funeral budget online.
Sandra’s story captured the attention of many in 2023 when she posted a detailed breakdown of her burial expenses on Facebook, sparking mixed reactions among netizens.
In her post, she expressed her frustrations with life and stated that she wanted her burial to be simple, even joking that her mother would not lack firewood and a matchstick if she were cremated.
Tragically, Sandra’s death occurred on October 9, 2025 — the same date she had shared the post two years earlier. Friends and family have described her passing as heartbreaking and mysterious.
One of her close friends shared an emotional tribute online, recalling how Sandra had recently celebrated her birthday with great joy, unaware it would be her last.
In her budget, Sandra had estimated funeral expenses to be slightly over KSh 100,000, including mortuary fees, transport, and food. She had also reserved KSh 20,000 for her family to use after her burial.
Reports indicate that Sandra died after a short illness. She was known for her leadership in her local church, serving as the youth chairperson and choir member at St. Augustine Kiplabai Station.
Kenyans on social media have poured out messages of condolence, describing her as cheerful, prayerful, and full of life. “Rest in power, Sandra. Your dedication and kindness will never be forgotten,” wrote one mourner.
Her death has reignited conversations about mental health and the need for emotional support, especially among the youth facing silent struggles.
