Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka has said the Linda Mwananchi movement will continue with its political activities even if Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna is no longer part of the outfit.

Onyonka made the remarks on Thursday, September 17, 2026, amid growing discussion about the future of the movement and the political ambitions of some of its leading members.

Speaking during a radio breakfast show, Onyonka said Linda Mwananchi had attracted a growing number of young people who were committed to the movement and were not participating because of personal political rewards.

He argued that the movement had developed a following beyond individual politicians and would therefore remain active even if some of its prominent figures left.

Onyonka’s comments come as questions continue to emerge over the political direction of Linda Mwananchi ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Sifuna has emerged as the movement’s most prominent figure and has been linked to a presidential bid in 2027. Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi recently said the movement was preparing to support Sifuna, although he also acknowledged that other leaders, including Siaya Governor James Orengo, had expressed interest in the presidency.

At the same time, other leaders associated with Linda Mwananchi are pursuing different political ambitions. Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, for example, has said he intends to concentrate more on Nairobi as he prepares for a possible gubernatorial contest while continuing to support Sifuna’s presidential ambitions.

The movement has also faced disagreements over the political party or coalition structure that could be used to contest the 2027 elections.

Despite these differences, Onyonka maintained that Linda Mwananchi’s activities would continue.

The comments highlight the challenge facing the movement as it attempts to maintain a common political platform while its leaders pursue different electoral ambitions ahead of the 2027 polls.
