Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has officially left the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and joined the People’s Party of Kenya (PPK), marking a major shift in his political journey ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Nyoro announced the move during a media briefing on Monday, August 17, 2026, saying he would join the opposition together with his supporters and members of his new political party.
The lawmaker also urged Kenyans to consider PPK as they prepare to choose their leaders in the 2027 elections. He said the party could work together with other political formations to create a stronger political alternative.
Before making the decision, Nyoro said he consulted several opposition leaders, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Martha Karua, Peter Munya and Jubilee Deputy Party Leader Fred Matiang’i.
The Kiharu MP said his decision was based on the need to determine the best political direction for the country going forward.
Nyoro’s move comes after months of growing distance between him and the Kenya Kwanza administration. He had increasingly criticised aspects of the government’s economic policies and positioned himself as a strong voice on issues affecting Kenyans.
His departure from UDA is expected to generate fresh political debate, particularly in the Mt Kenya region, as different parties and leaders work to build alliances ahead of the 2027 elections.
The move also puts Nyoro in the growing opposition camp, where he could work alongside several prominent political leaders seeking to challenge the current administration.
With political realignments gathering pace, Nyoro’s decision to leave UDA and join PPK could become an important development in the formation of new alliances ahead of the 2027 General Election.
