Kenyan motorists have started spotting a new generation of vehicle registration plates beginning with the letters KE, marking the end of the KD series that has been in use for several years.

The new plates are already appearing on vehicles across the country, with some motorists sharing images of the new combinations as the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) moves to the next stage of the registration sequence.

The first combinations include plates beginning with KEA, signalling the start of the new series.

The transition follows the completion of the KD sequence for ordinary vehicle registrations. The KD series had been used for vehicles registered under the previous numbering generation.

The appearance of the KE plates has attracted attention among motorists, with many curious about how quickly the new combinations will roll out and when particular combinations will become available.

The change is part of the normal progression of Kenya’s vehicle registration system as existing number combinations are exhausted.

NTSA has continued to modernise the number plate system, including the introduction of enhanced security features designed to make plates harder to counterfeit and easier to link to registered vehicles.

The move to the KE series comes as the transport authority continues efforts to improve vehicle registration and identification across the country.

Motorists receiving newly registered vehicles are therefore expected to increasingly encounter the new KE plates on Kenyan roads as NTSA continues issuing them.
