Embakasi North MP James Gakuya has stepped up his campaign for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat after taking his political message to residents of Kasarani and Ruai.

Gakuya toured the two areas on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, as he began intensifying grassroots engagements ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The lawmaker was accompanied by Embakasi Central MP Gathiru Mwangi, popularly known as Mejja Donk, as well as several politicians aligned with the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).

During the engagements, Gakuya outlined his plans for Nairobi while seeking support from residents and local opinion leaders.

The campaign activities come shortly after Gakuya held a consultative meeting with various Nairobi opinion shapers as he continues building support for his gubernatorial bid.

Nairobi Woman Representative aspirant Millicent Omanga, who attended the consultative meeting, endorsed Gakuya and expressed confidence in his ability to compete for the governor’s position.

Omanga said traders and members of the Kisii community living in Nairobi could support Gakuya’s bid.

Gakuya’s growing campaign comes as the Nairobi gubernatorial race begins to attract several high-profile political figures seeking to challenge incumbent Governor Johnson Sakaja in 2027.

Among those who have expressed interest is Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, who has repeatedly declared his intention to become Nairobi governor.

Sakaja is also preparing to defend his seat and has said he wants to serve a full two terms, arguing that continuity is important for Nairobi’s development.

The governor’s deputy, James Muchiri, has also registered as a gubernatorial aspirant, adding another potential contender to an increasingly crowded race.

With Gakuya now taking his campaign to different parts of Nairobi, the contest for City Hall is expected to become more competitive as political parties and aspirants begin strengthening their grassroots networks ahead of the 2027 polls.
