The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) is set to intensify its activities in Nairobi, with Secretary-General John Methu and Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala leading a meet-the-people engagement in the Central Business District.

The DCP team is expected to meet traders and members of the business community on Wednesday, September 2, as the party seeks to strengthen its presence in the capital.

Methu and Malala will be joined by several DCP-aligned Nairobi MPs, including Embakasi North MP James Gakuya, Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje and Starehe MP Amos Mwago.

Kamukunji MP Hassan Yusuf is also expected to participate after recently joining the DCP from the Jubilee Party.

The planned engagement comes amid growing concerns among Nairobi traders over increased costs of doing business.

Traders in parts of the CBD have recently staged demonstrations over what they described as higher taxes on imported goods. The protests resulted in arrests and police intervention.

The DCP has positioned the Nairobi engagement as part of its efforts to connect with residents and understand the challenges facing traders and other business operators.

The party has also been expanding its grassroots activities in different parts of the country as it prepares for the 2027 General Election.

Methu has recently led similar meet-the-people tours in Laikipia and other areas, while Malala has continued overseeing party activities in the absence of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who is currently on a visit to the United States.

The party is seeking to expand its influence in Nairobi, an important political battleground ahead of the 2027 polls.

The latest CBD engagement is therefore expected to give DCP leaders an opportunity to interact directly with traders while advancing the party’s grassroots mobilisation efforts in the capital.
