A warning made by Nigerian preacher Primate Elijah Ayodele about a possible plane disaster in Kenya has resurfaced following the deadly helicopter crash in Samburu County.
The warning, which was made in June 2026, has attracted fresh attention after seven people died when a helicopter crashed near Mount Ololokwe in Samburu on Wednesday, August 19.
The aircraft was flying from Loisaba Conservancy towards the Ewaso Nyiro area when it crashed at around 9:13am. Seven people were on board, including the pilot and six passengers. Five of those who died were American citizens. Among the victims was Ecuador’s intelligence chief Michele Sensi-Contugi and his wife, Stephany Hollihan.
In his June message, Ayodele urged Kenyans to pray against a possible plane disaster. The statement was made while he was also speaking about Kenya’s political situation and the opposition.
Following the Samburu accident, the prophet’s media office brought back the earlier warning, claiming that the latest tragedy was similar to what he had cautioned about.
The preacher had also spoken separately about possible helicopter accidents in Africa. He urged people to pray against such an incident involving a helicopter.
The resurfaced statements have since caused discussion among Kenyans, especially because they came weeks before the Samburu crash.
However, the cause of the helicopter accident has not been established. The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority confirmed that the aircraft was a Eurocopter EC130 B4 and said the Air Accident Investigation Department was leading investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Authorities are expected to examine what happened before the aircraft went down and determine the factors that contributed to the accident.
The tragedy has also raised fresh concerns about aviation safety, especially because helicopters are commonly used to transport tourists to remote destinations across Kenya.
As investigations continue, the resurfaced prophecy has added another layer of public interest to an accident that has already attracted attention both locally and internationally.
For now, the official investigation remains the key process in determining what caused the Samburu helicopter crash.
