The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has pushed back against allegations by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua that investigators were attempting to cover up the murder of Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso.

Gachagua had accused the DCI of protecting police officers allegedly involved in the killing and demanded that investigators reveal the identities of officers he claimed were connected to the case.

However, DCI Director Mohamed Amin said investigations had already uncovered the involvement of several individuals, including police officers who allegedly played key roles in the conspiracy.

Amin said Inspector Kenneth Kipkemboi Sang, who was in charge of Nderi Police Post under Kikuyu Police Station, had been identified as an alleged link between the financiers and the operational team. He said the officer was also linked to the alleged source of the firearm used in the killing and was still at large.

The DCI further identified Rose Mbinde Mulwa and her son, Christopher Mulwa, as alleged organisers and financiers of the operation that resulted in Dr Mutiso’s death.

Investigators also said they had identified the person believed to have carried out the shooting.

The DCI has maintained that investigations into the murder are ongoing and that detectives are following multiple leads as they seek to establish everyone involved.

Gachagua, however, has continued to question the handling of the investigation and has insisted that he received information from security officers about the case.

The former deputy president has demanded greater transparency from the investigators and warned against what he described as attempts to shield police officers involved in the killing.

The disagreement has added a political dimension to the high-profile murder investigation, with Gachagua and the DCI publicly exchanging accusations and demands for information.

Authorities have maintained that the investigation will continue as detectives work to establish the full circumstances surrounding Dr Mutiso’s death and bring those responsible to justice.
