Former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa has demanded answers over an alleged KSh3 billion tender for the supply of new police uniforms.

Wamalwa questioned the procurement process and called for transparency over the contract, raising concerns about how the tender was awarded and whether proper procedures were followed.

He urged the government to disclose details of the supplier, the tendering process and the justification for the reported cost.

The former Cabinet secretary said Kenyans deserved clarity on the expenditure, particularly amid concerns over the management of public funds.

The alleged tender involves the supply of new uniforms for police officers, with the reported cost estimated at KSh3 billion.

Wamalwa called on relevant government agencies to investigate the matter and provide a full account of the procurement process.

He also urged oversight bodies, including Parliament and the Auditor-General, to scrutinise the tender and establish whether it complied with public procurement laws.

The concerns come as the government continues efforts to modernise the National Police Service and improve the welfare and working conditions of officers.

However, Wamalwa maintained that such initiatives must be implemented transparently and in a manner that protects public resources.

He said the government should explain how the contract was evaluated, why the supplier was selected and whether the uniforms met the required standards.

The former Defence Cabinet secretary further called for the publication of relevant tender documents to allow the public to assess the procurement process.

The demand for answers has renewed scrutiny of major government tenders and raised questions about accountability in the use of taxpayers’ money.
