Wilbroda: Fake Friends Sunk Me Into Alcoholism; Being Broke

In an interview with Buzz Central’s Cheptoek Boyo, actress and radio presenter Jacquey Nyaminde, also known as Wilbroda, revealed how fake friends contributed to her struggles with alcoholism. At the peak of her career, Wilbroda was receiving a significant amount of money from endorsements and found herself consumed by alcohol. Despite her misuse of funds, her friends failed to advise or caution her.

Wilbroda recounted, “I had a crew that would only talk positively about me. We would sit and drink and a lot of the time I would be the one footing the bills.” She would drink on a daily basis until she realized the impact it was having on her life and the life of her son. She made the decision to take a break from drinking and focus on her recovery.

For two years, Wilbroda abstained from alcohol and found that during this time, her true friends remained by her side while the fake ones disappeared. She reflected, “I gained true friends and I think now I am a social drinker. I take wine and you will never find me drinking every day. That is what comes with maturity. Unlike before, I can say no to a drink.”
