According to Bloomberg, the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is investigating whether Tesla CEO Elon Musk made inappropriate forward-looking statements regarding the company’s self-driving capabilities.
This investigation is part of an ongoing examination by the SEC of Tesla’s statements about its Autopilot driver-assistance system.
Musk is already facing trial for allegedly misleading investors with a tweet in 2018 that stated “funding secured” for taking Tesla private.
The SEC is looking into the company’s 2016 video that purported to show a Tesla vehicle driving itself, but was later revealed to have been staged by a senior engineer on the Tesla team working on the Autopilot software.
