Nine members of a family who lost their lives in a tragic fire incident in Sigomere, Siaya County, are set to be laid to rest today at their home in Upanda village.
The victims, a man, his wife, and their seven children, reportedly passed away after a fire engulfed their home during the night of April 23. The circumstances surrounding the incident have led authorities to suspect foul play.
A key suspect in the case, 56-year-old Christopher Okello Owino, was arrested a day after the incident in the Kianda area of Kibra, Nairobi. Authorities say he had left the city shortly after the fire occurred, prompting an investigation into his possible involvement.
Residents who were familiar with Owino raised concerns after learning of his movements on the night of the fire. Following his arrest, he was transferred to Ugunja for further investigation.
Police also apprehended Owino’s wife in Migori County. During the operation, officers recovered a container suspected to be linked to the case. Investigators have taken several items, including mobile phones, for forensic analysis as they continue to follow leads and determine whether others were involved.
The case has drawn national attention, with many calling for a thorough and transparent investigation to ensure justice for the deceased family.
