A solemn atmosphere prevails in the Kapweria area of Emurua Dikirr constituency in Narok county, following a disturbing incident in which a 13-year-old girl fatally attacked her mother with a machete during a dispute over a mobile phone.
According to Boniface Kavoo, the police chief of Transmara East sub-county, the young suspect seized a machete and assaulted her 55-year-old mother, causing severe head injuries. Unfortunately, the mother succumbed to her injuries after substantial bleeding.
Mr. Kavoo reported that neighbors responding to the cries from the suspect’s residence discovered the victim in agony, pleading for assistance.
“The situation arose when the mother sought to reclaim the phone her daughter was using for communication. It appears the deceased was a strict parent and disapproved of her daughter engaging in extensive communication without her knowledge. The confrontation escalated, leading to a tragic outcome,” explained the officer.
The teenage suspect allegedly disposed of the murder weapon in a pit latrine to conceal the evidence. However, she later confessed to taking her mother’s life, citing a desire for more freedom.
The deceased’s body has been transferred to the Kapkatet Hospital mortuary, while the suspect is currently detained at the Emurua Dikiir police station.
