Police in Tindiret, Nandi County, are currently investigating an incident that occurred on Thursday, June 7th, involving the assault of a police officer by members of the public.
According to reports, Sergeant Sammy Maritim, who is in charge of the Kapsigilai Patrol Base, visited the Kibingong trading center around 1:45 AM allegedly to search for his girlfriend, Akinyi, with whom he resides. However, upon his arrival, he began loudly calling for Akinyi, causing disturbance and annoyance among the residents. This disturbance ultimately led to the residents assaulting him.
The report, filed at Potopoto Police Station, indicates that Officer Maritim suffered blunt force injuries to his head during the assault.
Upon receiving the report, police officers promptly responded to the scene and found Officer Maritim unconscious, with significant bleeding from his head injuries.
He was quickly transported to Chepsese dispensary for immediate medical attention and subsequently referred to Nandi Hills Sub-County Hospital for further treatment. Currently, he is admitted to the hospital and reported to be in stable condition.
