Veteran politician Paul Muite has delivered a sharp critique of Kenya’s Single Housing Allowance (SHA) program, arguing that while officials claim it is “working,” in reality it primarily benefits those engaged in looting public resources.
Muite suggested that the initiative, intended to support ordinary citizens, has been hijacked by individuals exploiting the system for personal gain. His remarks reflect broader concerns about corruption and mismanagement in government programs, where funds meant for social welfare or development often end up enriching a few at the expense of the majority.
The statement has reignited public debate over transparency, accountability, and the effectiveness of government interventions, with many Kenyans expressing frustration at recurring patterns of misuse and the gap between policy intentions and actual outcomes.
By framing SHA as a tool that rewards looters, Muite has underscored the urgent need for oversight reforms and stricter monitoring to ensure that government programs genuinely serve the people.
