Sabina Chege stands as one of Kenya’s renowned and captivating female politicians, having immersed herself in the political arena for several years. However, what often eludes public awareness is Sabina’s remarkable journey and the challenges she overcame to ascend to the echelons of influence in Kenyan politics.
Contrary to common perception, Sabina Chege did not hail from a prosperous background. Her parents lacked the financial means to send her to the University of Nairobi. Consequently, after excelling in her Form Four examinations, Sabina found herself compelled to take on the role of a househelp in Kawangware, where her earnings barely exceeded Ksh. 10,000.
During her tenure as a househelp, fate smiled upon Sabina as she secured a role on the renowned Tausi show, broadcast on KBC. Notably, her journey into the limelight had just begun.
Sabina revealed that she entered into matrimony during her inaugural year at the university, an event that coincided with her delivery date. Consequently, her enrollment was delayed by two months. Undeterred, she persevered, attending classes with her baby and nanny in tow, juggling the demands of motherhood and academia.
With a passion for acting that originated in high school, Sabina continued to pursue her interest, gaining notoriety in the process. Her fame eventually paved the way for a position at Kameme FM, a prominent vernacular radio station.
“I joined Kameme FM during my first year at Nairobi University,” Sabina disclosed. Her initial monthly earnings at the station were Ksh. 25,000, and she dedicated five years to making a significant impact. Her journalistic prowess contributed to the station’s heightened prominence during the period from 2000 to 2005.
Upon completing her university education, Sabina Chege transitioned into politics, quickly becoming a formidable force in the Mt Kenya region. It was during her tenure as the women representative of Murang’a County that she gained widespread recognition among Kenyans.
Politics wrought a transformative effect on Sabina’s life, ushering in financial prosperity through both her political endeavors and business ventures. Presently, she stands as one of Kenya’s affluent female politicians, leading a lavish lifestyle.
In the 2022 elections, Sabina Chege was touted as one of Raila Odinga’s preferred running mates. Despite Raila’s electoral defeat, Sabina endures as a nominated member of parliament within the government, a testament to her enduring influence in Kenyan politics.
