RIP: Drama as Bishop Is Killed and Burnt by Angry Mob After Allegedly Sodomising a Boy in Nyeri

Reverend Francis Ngachu holds a photograph of his late brother Bishop Simon Ndegwa.

The chaos erupted when the victim’s mother accused the bishop of luring her son into his compound with food before allegedly assaulting him.

Her return to find her child limping sparked immediate alarm, prompting a crowd to storm the bishop’s residence.

Eyewitnesses say the enraged group cornered Bishop Ndegwa, pinned him under logs, and proceeded to beat him.

Though his twin brother, Reverend Francis Ngachu, attempted to intervene, the mob proved too hostile.

He later rushed to the police station for help, but by the time officers arrived, the bishop had succumbed to the assault, and his body was set on fire.

The late bishop had been ordained in 1983 and recently returned to Nyeri to support his brother’s ministry. His burial took place on June 7 in Mukurweini, but the events surrounding his death have sparked deeper tension.

Reverend Ngachu has since gone into hiding, claiming he has received threats from individuals who fear being implicated.

He insists he has forgiven those responsible and signed an affidavit to avoid pursuing legal action.

However, the threats persist, and his church remains shut.

Police say preliminary reports suggest the bishop had a history of similar allegations, with at least four previous cases, including one as recent as 2020 in Nanyuki.

Investigations into the mob lynching and past abuse claims remain ongoing.
