Purity Ngina is the youngest PhD holder in Kenya with a remarkable backstory. Hailing from a humble background, she triumphed over adversity through education. Today, she is a clear symbol of hope and success.
Purity was born in Nyeri County in 1990. She now works as a research assessor for Zizi Afrique Foundation and is also an academic.
Her journey to becoming the youngest PhD holder in Kenya was not without challenges. Despite her poverty, she attended a local primary school and managed to score 235 marks in KCPE. She was undeterred and took class 8 again the following year, scoring 368 points.
Purity went on to excel in secondary school, scoring well in KCSE and securing a spot at Egerton University. She earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and chemistry, followed by a master’s in applied mathematics from the same institution.
As a professor at Strathmore University, Purity received funding for her PhD in biomathematics and, at the age of 28, earned her doctorate.
