As per Zachary Munyambu of Kiambu Farmers Cooperative Society, the spike in the cost is attributed to a national shortage due to the increase in production cost.

“Poultry farming in the country has now become unsustainable, farmers have closed shop, cutting down the supplies of eggs in the market,” Munyambu remarked.

Aside from eggs, a few fundamental commodities including cooking oil and milk have seen up vertical trajectory in their costs. This has constrained various business close shop because of unsustainable profit margins.
