On The Radar: Journalists recount Memories of ‘humble’ Tinina, Requiem mass at Family Basilica

The Holy Family Basilica in Nairobi was shrouded in a solemn atmosphere on Monday morning as friends, family, and colleagues gathered to bid farewell to the late journalist Rita Tinina at her requiem mass.

The mass, commencing at 10 am, marked the outset of Tinina’s final journey, drawing together her loved ones and members of the media fraternity to pay their respects.

Tinina’s casket, adorned in a brown hue and veiled with a delicate white lace net, bore a wreath of red and white flowers atop it. Close friends and immediate family, attired in black attire for the ladies and a white scarf, gathered to mourn her passing.

Seated beside her aunties, Tinina’s daughter Mia Malaikah, donned in a white dress, symbolized a poignant presence amidst the congregation.

Amidst the tolling of the hour, the mass commenced, signifying the beginning of a farewell to Tinina, who will be laid to rest on Wednesday, March 27, at the family’s ancestral home, Noosupeni Farm Olokirikirai in Narok.

Tinina was the cherished daughter of the late Dominic and the late Mary Yiapan, and a beloved sibling to Helen, Irene, Justine, Jedidah, Keen, and Claudia. Her memory is also treasured as a sister-in-law to Timothy, Roshen, Belmont, Agnes, and Macharia.
