Kenyan political commentator Nuru Okanga has fired a strong warning at Tanzanian music star Diamond Platnumz, telling him to return to Tanzania and face his country’s current situation instead of “enjoying himself in Kenya.”
In a fiery statement that has since gone viral, Okanga accused the celebrated singer of ignoring the suffering of ordinary Tanzanians while allegedly siding with the government.
“Wewe Diamond rudi kwenu ukapambane na vita yako. Hakuna mtu alikuambia ukule pesa usifu huyo mama kichwa ngumu Watanzania wakiumia. Kesho nikiamka nisikia bado uko Kenya, mimi mwenyewe nitapanda ndege mpaka Mombasa nikutoe huko!” Okanga said.
His remarks have sparked a heated online debate, with fans of both Okanga and Diamond trading words across social media platforms. Some supported Okanga’s stance, arguing that influential celebrities like Diamond should use their platforms to speak out against injustice. Others, however, defended the artist, saying he should not be dragged into political matters.
Diamond, who has been in Kenya for music-related engagements, has not yet responded to Okanga’s comments. However, his silence has only fueled speculation about his stance on Tanzania’s ongoing political tension following the recent elections.
Analysts note that this confrontation highlights the growing intersection between entertainment and politics in East Africa, where artists often find themselves under pressure to take political positions during national crises.
As discussions continue online, many are now waiting to see whether Diamond will respond to Okanga’s challenge — or simply ignore the storm and continue with his business in Kenya.
