Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has expressed his willingness to meet with President William Ruto if he receives an invitation. During a recent media appearance, Uhuru indicated that he is prepared to set aside any differences that may have arisen from their handshake with ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Speaking about the potential meeting, Uhuru stated, “On President Ruto, I can’t invite myself to talk with him but if he reaches out to me, he is my Prezzo (President) and I will go.” He believes that such a meeting could provide an opportunity for him to offer counsel to President Ruto, who is currently facing opposition backlash over issues like high taxation and the cost of living.
Uhuru also recalled that he used to seek counsel from his predecessors, having approached both Moi and Kibaki for advice during his presidency. In a separate interview with Media Editors, he advised President Ruto against misusing his powers.
The former President emphasized that he fulfilled his mandate and peacefully handed over power to Ruto, despite not supporting him as his deputy. He offered some words of wisdom to President Ruto, saying, “My advice to President Ruto is that power is fleeting and temporary; do your best for the country. It is your responsibility to lead the country, not me, even if I did not support you. I did my best and handed over power when my term ended.”
