For the first time, Alicia Wamboi, a Nairobi-based woman shared what led to her first marriage
failing. She says things had become so bad that her now ex-husband had become violent as she
shared her own story on our blog.
“I was very well known outside but inside in the house I would cry.
My marriage had gotten physical. I had a very good relationship with my then-father-in-law. My
ex-husband used to joke that I would leave his house if his dad died. I was judged a lot when I
left my marriage. Some people assumed I left my marriage because I had become a household
name.’’ she said.
‘’Some people came to apologize after finding out what type of man my ex-husband was,” Alicia
added. She added that she was afraid of how people would take the news of her divorce. “After
my marriage failed I stayed indoors for six months. At some point, I started going ‘crazy’. I would
forget where I am.” she said.
“I would sometimes drive on the wrong side of the road. Some friends of mine helped me get out
of the house. I would sleep during the day and at night. At some point, I accepted things as they
were.” she continued.
Alicia claimed that one should not stay in an abusive marriage just because of the kids.
“Divorce is very painful. but instead of harming the other person, it’s easier to leave. Don’t stay
because of the kids because, in the end, you will leave them.
If a person constantly tells you that he will kill or harm you, it is good to take the threat
seriously. Children will grow.” Jane painfully concluded.
Today Jane is in a happy new marriage with a new hubby after she got connected to a loving,
respectful, and caring man. This was after she was introduced to Dr. Mugwenu by her friend.
