Multimedia University student found dead in water tank, his boyfriend is on the run

Police in Lang’ata Sub-County have initiated an investigation into the suspicious death of a first-year student at Multimedia University. The body of the victim, identified as Sylvia Kemunto, was found inside a water tank on the university campus.

Kemunto, who had been missing since Sunday, was discovered dead late yesterday evening. Nairobi County Police Commander George Seda confirmed that authorities were alerted by students after the grim discovery.

“We received reports that the body of a young woman was found inside a water tank at the institution. Our investigations are ongoing,” said Seda.

The police have since launched a search for the victim’s boyfriend, who is currently unaccounted for. Witnesses claim he was the last person seen leaving Kemunto’s room in Block E on the university campus.

Kemunto’s body has been transported to the City Mortuary, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.

In response to the incident, the Multimedia University Student Association (MUKSA) has urged students to remain calm as investigations unfold. The MUKSA Secretary-General issued a statement calling the tragedy a “wake-up call” to tackle issues such as gender-based violence and toxic masculinity.

“We must face the reality of gender-based violence and foster a culture that values and protects women,” the statement emphasized. Additionally, student leaders are organizing a prayer session and awareness campaigns to promote safety and non-violence.
