Evaline Akinyi, a widow from Kaksingri, has made an emotional appeal for assistance as she battles overwhelming challenges following the death of her husband in 2015.
Tragedy compounded for Evaline just a month after losing her husband, when she was allegedly attacked by her brother-in-law. He pressured her to spend money that her sisters had brought to offer condolences, forcing her to leave her home due to abuse and mistreatment.
Today, Evaline lives in a small house belonging to her younger sister in Sori Karungu, sharing the space with her three children. With limited employment opportunities, she relies on manual labor, such as laundry, to provide for her family.
“I have nowhere to call home,” she lamented, describing the pain of her current circumstances.
The family’s financial struggles have also taken a toll on the children’s education. Evaline can only afford to send them to school during exam periods, leaving them at home for the remainder of the term. She longs for her children to have the same educational opportunities as other children, but paying school fees and other expenses remains impossible.
“It hurts to see my children miss out on school because I can’t afford it,” she shared.
The widow’s hardships have left her grappling with hopelessness and grief, often reflecting on her husband’s untimely death.
“Sometimes, I wonder why God took him away from us,” she said, highlighting her deep sense of loss.
Despite the daily struggles, Evaline remains hopeful that by reaching out to people like Dr. Raymond Omolo, she may find support to improve her family’s circumstances.
“I just want a chance for my children to go to school and have a better life,” she emphasized earnestly.
