Mary Wairimu, the visionary behind Jahay Coffee, has introduced a unique beverage made from black beans, commonly known as Njahi. Hailing from Nakuru County, Wairimu created this product to offer consumers a distinctive alternative to traditional coffee.
Her non-caffeinated coffee aims to boost the local processing and manufacturing industry, providing a fresh approach to beverage options. In addition to Njahi, Wairimu incorporates a blend of herbs from India, crafting a one-of-a-kind drink designed to offer a special experience to her customers.
“Jahay is prepared just like other hot beverages, with hot water and milk, sweetened according to individual preferences. It’s designed to uplift and energize, helping you power through demanding tasks and cognitive work with resilience,” said Wairimu.
Not only does Jahay Coffee provide a natural energy boost, but it also offers health benefits, such as helping manage arthritis, regulating blood sugar, promoting digestive health, reducing the risk of chronic diseases, strengthening bones, and supporting milk production in nursing mothers.
“This coffee is also a great tool in combating addiction, as it reduces cravings and alleviates withdrawal symptoms linked to various dependencies,” Wairimu added.
Popular not just in Kenya, but also across East Africa, including Tanzania, Njahi beans are rich in essential nutrients like protein, folate, iron, Vitamin B6, calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus.
“This caffeine-free drink, made from the nutrient-packed Kenyan black bean (Njahi), is a powerhouse of proteins, iron, calcium, magnesium, folate, complex carbohydrates, and fiber,” Wairimu explained.
