- Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has been consolidating his support in the Mt. Kenya region following his impeachment
- Gachagua has publicly stated that he would show the region which political route to take ahead of the 2027 General Election
- However, vocal lawyer Makau Mutua warned Mt. Kenya residents against following Gachagua blindly
Nairobi – Prominent lawyer Makau Mutua has continued attacking former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.
In a tweet on Tuesday, January 7, Mutua warned Mt. Kenya residents against listening to Gachagua’s political advice.
The former deputy president has been holding consultative meetings with regional leaders to chart a new political trajectory for the Mt. Kenya people.
Reacting to Gachagua’s recent political statements, Mutua warned that the former deputy president would likely lead the GEMA people unto ‘death and darkness’.
Makau, a close ally of opposition leader Raila Odinga, urged the Central Kenya residents to avoid Gachagua like a plague for their political survival.
“To my GEMA cousins — please ignore disgraced ex-DP Rigathi Gachagua like the plague that he is. The man is a political neanderthal who will lead you “unto death and darkness.” You are fellow Kenyans. Don’t blindly follow a splitist, a believer/practitioner of tribal appartheid,” Mutua said.
How will Mt Kenya pick leaders in 2027
Meanwhile, Gachagua hinted at a new approach to leadership in Mt Kenya come the 2027 General Election.
He pointed out the need for more scrutiny when choosing future leaders in the coming polls to avoid their current tribulations.
He lamented that many of the region’s past leaders had betrayed the community for personal gain, causing the region to suffer in the long run.
Gachagua made it clear that the region would not repeat the same mistakes and that leaders elected in the future would have to be proven patriot
