The Liberty National Democratic Alliance (LINDA) Party has threatened to take legal action against the Linda Mwananchi movement over the use of the Linda name, symbols and party identity.

LINDA officials say they are the legitimate holders of the name and have warned the faction associated with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna against using an identity they claim belongs to their party.

Speaking at the party’s headquarters in Kiambu, party leader Phanesio Thuku said the organisation began its registration process in November 2024 and has since established a membership base across the country.

The party maintains that it followed the required legal procedures and has been recognised by the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) during the registration process.

Officials said the Registrar requested additional documents on August 14, which they have since submitted. They added that the only remaining step is for the party to receive its registration certificate.

LINDA has accused the Linda Mwananchi group of using its name and symbols despite the ongoing registration dispute. The party says it is prepared to go to court if the issue is not resolved.

The dispute comes as political parties and movements intensify their preparations ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi movement has also been seeking official recognition under the name. The group says the ORPP declined to reserve the proposed party name.

The movement has since challenged the decision before the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal, which has certified the case as urgent.

The competing claims over the name are now likely to be settled through the legal and political parties registration processes as both sides seek control of the Linda identity.
