Renowned Kenyan media personality, Larry Madowo, has landed a new position at CNN. He has been appointed as the host of the popular African Voices Changemakers series, which profiles inspiring individuals from all over the African continent.
Madowo expressed his excitement about his new role and said, “I am eager to bring to light the amazing stories and incredible people from across Africa and showcase these remarkable African changemakers to the world. Having been featured on the show prior to joining CNN, this is a full-circle moment for me.”
His first episode of African Voices Changemakers will air on February 25, 2023 and will continue to be broadcasted weekly on CNN International. The show aims to seek out leading innovators and trendsetters across Africa who are looking to positively impact the continent. In addition, audiences can also enjoy supplementary content, including the popular ‘My Drive’ videos, on digital and social media platforms.
Madowo, who has previously been featured on the show in 2017, is looking forward to featuring Africa’s musicians, inventors, leaders in the business and finance sector, sports personalities, and activists, thereby providing a comprehensive layer of experiences from the African continent.
The seasoned journalist, who started his career at KTN at the age of 20, joined CNN in May 2021 as Nairobi’s correspondent before being promoted to International Correspondent. He stated, “I have long admired CNN International’s award-winning coverage and I am honored to be a part of such a talented team. I am looking forward to sharing the diverse aspects of life in one of the most dynamic regions of the world with CNN’s global audience.”
Since joining CNN in 2021, Madowo has covered various stories from around the world, including the vaccine inequality of the coronavirus, Nigeria’s flooding, the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the Kenyan elections, the World Economic Forum in Davos, and more. He is based in Nairobi and has been broadcasting from various locations globally.
