In regard to WhatsApp scam on unauthorised KCSE results change, KNEC has issued a firm warning to parents and students. The release of the KCSE 2025 results comes with an increased risk of fraudulent activity targeting parents as well as students.
According to KNEC, the messages being sent via WhatsApp offer candidates higher grades in specific subjects for money and sensitive personal information. Victims must provide the full name registered with KNEC, index number, school name, and subjects they want changed to the alleged agents privately.
KNEC has characterised these claims as fraudulent and has reiterated that no one, individual, group or institution can adjust the results of national examinations. KNEC also stated that the messages incorrectly imply that their officials and the Ministry of Education are involved in this scheme.
According to KNEC, exam scripts are marked using a system that complies with rigorous procedures that protect the validity of the results produced. During the marking process, all candidate scripts are anonymous. This means examiners will not know which student they are marking or which school or student these scripts belong to; therefore, this ensures that there is no favouritism and no way for outside influences to interfere with the examination process.
Additionally, KNEC stated that in previous years, similar scams were perpetrated by individuals using WhatsApp groups and channels to entice parents and students to part with their money; therefore, KNEC has urged the public to remain vigilant and not to respond to anyone who claims they can change KCSE results.
The Cabinet Secretary of Education, Julius Migos, has reiterated the message and reminded all Kenyans that there is no legal or legitimate way to amend or change official examination results. Parents and students should immediately report any suspicious text messages or contact the appropriate authorities to obtain information on KCSE results only through the official channels. KNEC will continue to preach integrity, patience, and trust in the examination process leading up to the KCSE results.
