John Njoroge: Kikuyu businessman making ksh 30K daily working part-time selling ‘Mutura’ in USA.

John Njoroge, popularly known as “Njoro,” is a 30-year-old Kikuyu businessman thriving in the United States by selling Mutura (African sausage). A Form Four leaver from Kiambu, Njoroge has successfully turned his passion into a lucrative side hustle, earning at least Ksh 30,000 daily during late-night hours.

Journey to the United States

Njoroge’s journey to the US began just before the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic when he won a green card lottery on his first attempt. With the help of a Facebook acquaintance who hosted him, he managed to settle in a country he had only seen in movies. Adjusting to life in the US was initially challenging, but Njoroge was determined to make the most of the opportunity.

From Kenya to the American Nightlife Scene

Back in Kenya, Njoroge was already an established Mutura supplier in Kiambu. Inspired to continue his trade abroad, a friend introduced him to the vibrant club scene in the US. While exploring 24-hour operational clubs, Njoroge realized there was a market for his beloved Kenyan delicacy.

Seizing the opportunity, he began selling Mutura to club-goers, targeting the late-night crowd. His business quickly gained traction, becoming a favorite among patrons seeking unique snacks during their nights out.

Earnings and Expansion Plans

Njoroge’s business is exceptionally profitable. On a bad day, he earns at least Ksh 10,000, while on a good day, he makes up to Ksh 30,000, including tips. A slice of Mutura sells for $5 (approximately Ksh 500), making it a popular and high-margin item among his customers.

Operating in the evenings and closing late at night, Njoroge has built a steady clientele. He is now considering expanding his business by opening branches in different US states, given the demand and success of his venture.

A Lesson in Resilience and Innovation

John Njoroge’s story is a testament to resilience, creativity, and the ability to turn challenges into opportunities. From Kiambu to the United States, he has shown that with determination and an entrepreneurial mindset, one can succeed anywhere in the world.
